1. Information Collection and Use

NovelMaker is designed to minimize data collection, and we collect only what the App needs in order to work. This includes the account holder’s name and email address, the story content created in the App, and, if a voice profile is set up, the audio recording of that person’s voice.

When you use the App, we may process limited, non-personal technical data necessary to operate and improve functionality. This may include anonymized information such as general device type, operating system version, basic usage statistics (e.g., app opens, time spent, or feature engagement), and diagnostic data like crash reports. These details are used solely to maintain app performance, enhance security, and improve the user experience.

We do not track users across other apps or websites, build behavioral advertising profiles, or use third-party advertising frameworks. Where integrated service providers (such as AI text, speech, or image generation) process content on our behalf, they act as processors for the purpose of delivering the feature you requested.

1a. Voice Recordings

NovelMaker can narrate stories in a familiar voice. To enable this, an adult records a voice profile in the App. That recording is audio data associated with the account, and it is used to generate narration for the stories created on that account.

Only an adult should record a voice profile, and only for a voice they are entitled to record. An account may hold more than one voice profile so that, for example, both parents or a grandparent can narrate.

You can ask us to delete a voice profile, or all of your data, at any time by contacting contact@novelmaker.co. Requests are handled as described in Section 7.

2. Use of Information

NovelMaker uses account data to provide access to the App, story and voice data to generate and narrate the stories you request, and limited technical data to keep the App working, secure, and improving over time. Technical data is analysed in aggregated form.

Information related to app activity, such as usage frequency, feature interactions, or error reports, may be analyzed to maintain system stability, fix bugs, and enhance user experience.

When AI-generated content features are used, inputs (such as text prompts or selections) may be temporarily processed by integrated AI services to generate responses. This data is handled securely, is not stored or linked to any personal identity, and is used only for the purpose of providing the requested AI output.

We do not use collected information for advertising, profiling, or marketing purposes, nor do we share it with third parties for commercial use. All processing is conducted in compliance with privacy laws and strictly to support app functionality and improvement.

3. Sharing and Disclosure of Information

We respect your privacy and only share information in limited and necessary circumstances. We may share your information with trusted third-party providers who help us deliver App services, including AI content generation, cloud storage, analytics, and payment processing. In some cases, we may be required to disclose information to comply with legal obligations, regulations, or valid legal processes. If NovelMaker undergoes a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We may also use or share aggregated or anonymized data that cannot reasonably be linked back to individual users, for purposes such as research, analytics, or marketing. Importantly, we do not sell your personal information to third parties under any circumstances.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

NovelMaker uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to support and enhance the user experience. These tools help us improve site navigation and performance, personalize recommendations and content, and analyze usage trends across the App. Cookies may also be used to remember preferences and optimize interactions with the platform. You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time; however, please note that doing so may limit certain features or functionality of the App.

5. Legal Basis (GDPR)

For users located in the European Union, we process personal data only where we have a valid legal basis under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This includes obtaining your consent for optional features, marketing communications, and the use of cookies. We may also process data when necessary to perform a contract, such as providing the services you request, or when it is in our legitimate interests to improve services, strengthen security, and prevent fraudulent activities. In some cases, we are required to process data to comply with legal obligations or regulatory requirements.

6. Sharing Your Data

We do not sell your personal data. However, we may share your information with third-party service providers that support essential functions of the App, such as cloud hosting, AI model integration, analytics, and payment processing. Information may also be disclosed to legal authorities if required to comply with applicable laws or valid legal processes. In the event of a business transfer, merger, or acquisition, your information may be included as part of the transferred assets. Additionally, we may share aggregated or anonymized data for research, statistical, or analytical purposes, ensuring that individual users cannot be identified.

7. Your GDPR Rights

If you are located in the European Union, you have specific rights under GDPR regarding your personal data. These rights include the ability to access, correct, or delete the information we hold about you; to restrict or object to certain types of data processing; and to request the transfer of your data to another provider (data portability).

You also have the right to withdraw your consent for processing activities at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. 8. User Content

Any stories, prompts, images, or other content you submit may be processed by AI models or shared with third-party service providers to deliver the App’s functionality. By submitting content, you grant NovelMaker a license to use, modify, and display your content as outlined in the Terms & Conditions.

9. Data Retention

NovelMaker minimizes data collection wherever possible. The data we do hold is the account holder’s name and email address, the stories created in the App, and any voice profile recordings.

We may process limited, non-personal information, such as anonymized usage statistics, device type, or app performance metrics, solely to improve functionality and user experience. This information cannot be used to identify you personally.

Account data, story content, and voice profile recordings are retained while the account is active. You can ask us to delete them at any time by contacting us, and we will action valid requests as described in Section 7. Technical logs are kept only as long as needed to operate the App or to comply with applicable law.

10. Children’s Privacy and Collection of Data

NovelMaker is designed to be safe and appropriate for users aged 4 and older. Protecting children’s data and privacy is one of our top priorities. NovelMaker is intended to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian. Creating an account requires an adult’s name and email address, and an adult may choose to record a voice profile. Where a child’s first name or favourite things are entered to personalise a story, that information is used only to generate the story. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children, and a child is never required to provide personal information to use the App.

When you or your child use NovelMaker, some non-personal and anonymous data may be processed automatically to ensure the app functions properly and improves over time. This may include:

• App performance metrics (e.g., crash logs, error reports)
• Anonymized usage statistics (e.g., frequency of use, feature engagement)
• Device type and operating system information

All such information is processed in a de-identified and aggregated form and cannot be used to identify any individual user.

If we ever discover that personal data from a child has been inadvertently collected, we will delete it promptly and take steps to prevent future occurrences.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor their children’s use of NovelMaker and contact us if they believe any personal data has been shared in error.

11. Security

We implement reasonable technical, administrative, and physical measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including:

• Requesting deletion of your account and data
• Withdrawing consent for processing where applicable

13. International Users

If you use NovelMaker from outside Canada, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in Canada or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to such transfers.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be effective when posted on the App or our website. Your continued use of NovelMaker constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
