Whose voice reads the story

Both apps solve the "my child wants a story about dinosaurs and their own name" problem. Where they part company is narration. Oscar Stories’ App Store listing does not mention recording your own voice, as checked on 27 August 2026. NovelMaker’s whole design assumes you will: you record a voice profile once, and stories are read back in it. If narration by a familiar voice is not something you need, that difference will not matter to you, and Oscar Stories supports older devices.

Choose Oscar Stories if

  • Your device cannot run iOS 18.6 - their listing declares iOS 16.0
  • You want personalised generated stories without setting up a voice recording first
  • You prefer an app whose parent company publishes extensive multilingual reading material
  • You would rather not record or store a voice profile at all

Choose NovelMaker if

  • You want the story narrated in a parent or grandparent’s recorded voice
  • You want up to four family voice profiles on one account
  • You want to pick the story length, up to longer bedtime-sized stories on Premium
  • You want downloaded stories to play offline
